Tech & People Values

Lately I'm definitely feeling less the lines between all of the tech stuff in general and starting to think more in terms of our values.

Like, whether it's AtProto or Leaf or Willow or whatever doesn't matter as much as the effect it has when people use it.

And you can instill those values in diverse circumstances, and that often means sacrificing some technical values for the sake of the people values we actually care about.

It's easy and common to conflate our people values with our technical values, and then only build the technical ones.

Once we came up with technical values that we thought would help uphold our people values, we imagined that we were clear to just focus exclusively on those technical values as if they were perfect.

Some of the terms like Fediverse and Indieweb come off to me as being more about the technical values, and that’s OK.

But the ideas we want to work towards are the ones that are trying to build, as much as possible, for our people values. And that may very well blur the technical categories that we try to batch everything into.
